Our Continent Studies Package - Lower Elementary focuses on continuing to build skill sets in reading, comprehension, and synthesis alongside more sophisticated geography skills. Students will extend their continent knowledge from basic identification to the “lay of the land” with materials that focus on the physical geography of each continent and offer a more detailed look at the biomes therein.

The Elementary Continent Mat can be used to review the names of the continents and oceans, introduce longitude and latitude, and build skills with direction and orientation. The Biomes of the World Mat switches the lens to present the biomes in a global context and begin to explore how climate zones affect them. Each Biome Mat and Continent Stencil offers more illustrative detail as a student focuses on a continent to learn about its physical geography. Continued work with Continent Biome Cards is an opportunity to explore how physical geography or terrain affects life. (As a bridge for varying reading levels, we include both the primary and elementary levels of these cards. The elementary cards are more appropriate for experienced or advanced readers and serve as a structure for further research.) The Continent Biome Cards - Primary can be stored in the Three-Part Card Tray Cabinet and the Continent Biome Cards - Elementary can be stored in the Cabinet of the Continents. The Biome Stamps and the Animals of the World Measuring Tape are fun resources for students while they work with the Continent Biome Cards. Both the Continent Readers and the Continent Portfolios allow students to read for content and learn more about the plants, animals, and peoples of each continent!
