The Animals of the World Measuring Tape is an exciting way to visualize the true scale of animals found all over the globe. Children can use the tape not only to contrast the measurements of animals featured on it, but also to compare animals, people, and objects around them: How big is an Andean condor’s wingspan compared to their desk? Are they as tall as an aardvark is long?
This heavy-duty polyester ribbon measuring tape is 12 feet long with clearly marked inch and foot increments. Tick marks let kids measure down to a quarter inch. It features full-color illustrations of 65 animals selected from our Continent Biome cards. Each animal’s name is color-coded to identify its continent.
A single measurement* for each animal is marked with a color-coded dotted line, and the type of measurement is noted in grey (length, height, wingspan, etc.), providing a perfect introduction to the many ways to measure and describe size: How tall is it? If it stands on two legs, like us, then is its head accounted for in its height? What happens if it stands on four legs—how do you measure height then? How long is it? Does that include a tail? How wide are its wings?
* Please note: There are wide ranges for animal sizes - the measurements noted on The Animals of the World Measuring Tape are the largest average sizes for these animals.
