Greetings in this wintery bright new year! We’ve been pretty quiet, but like the wild strawberry plant in our Temperate Forest biome of Georgia, we’ve been hard at work beneath the seemingly still surface. This past year has been a whirlwind: we’ve been humbled by your enthusiasm and so grateful for your support. We received more orders than ever before, and our tiny team struggled in our cozy space to fulfill orders and maintain our stock. It was a bittersweet to realize that the two tiny buildings that we called home for almost ten years (!) just aren’t big enough for us to create all the products we want to share with you. So…we’re moving!
Thanks and goodbye, old Waseca Biomes building! We’re sad to leave our old home, but it has an exciting metamorphosis coming, too: 140 Cleveland Ave. will soon be home to a pottery studio for a local artist and offices for a local urban gardening business. We’re so happy that more beautiful things will be produced in this lovely space.
Goodbye, empty old wood shop! Can you believe that all of our wood products were made in this tiny room?
As for the Biomes: we found a new building that more than doubles our space, with room to grow! We’ve long been talking and dreaming of finding a permanent home, and we finally found it! It will take some work, but we are excited.
Hello, new Waseca Biomes home! We closed on the building December 1 and began work the next week. The whole team has pitched in to help with demolition, and the wood shop boys are hard at work cleaning, painting, and renovating. We still have months of work ahead of us, but we’re excited and invigorated for this new phase.

Our new space will unify our whole team under one roof and let us make some much-needed changes to our production process. This past summer, we realized that all the little handmade products we love to make are really hard to produce on a large scale, in a tiny space: so we’re moving into a bigger space and stepping up our approach.
Our new space is huge, but it still needs lots of work!
Going into 2016 there will be some changes: some products will be redesigned for new, more efficient production techniques, and we may have some price increases, too—the first in almost 8 years! But we are committed to making sure that the quality and beauty of Waseca’s products are maintained, and we’re moving ahead with intention and a commitment to raise the bar for these materials and even add new ones: yep, in the midst of all this chaos, we’ve been developing some new things!
Shhhh... coming soon!
The transition will take some time, but like wild strawberries, we can’t wait to reemerge in the spring! As we continue to work on our new home and pack up our old one, we hope you’ll be patient with our limited stock and longer-than-usual wait times. Our woodshop will hopefully be up and running soon, and we’ve set a goal to be in our new space by the AMS conference. We can’t wait to see some of you in Chicago, and we can’t wait to share our progress with you! More to come; stay tuned for updates!
Nina, hard at work in the new space
With much gratitude and awe,
the Waseca Biomes team
